Airport Survival Tips

Does traveling and airports in general make you crazy?! Yeah, same! I don’t know what it is but something about traveling through an airport (especially with a group of people) cause tremendous stress. I have figured out some tips and tricks that help me get through the airport without losing my mind and I hope they can help you too!

Tip #1: Give yourself plenty of time!

This is one of the easiest things to do that will receive you of travel anxiety! We always plan to get to the airport 2 hours before our take off time.  If you have a habit of cutting it close, just a warning that most airlines require you to be checked in 45 minutes before departure time if you are checking bags and if you are carrying bag it’s 30 minutes before departure time. You also will need to be at your departure gate 15 minutes prior to your take off time! So take a deep breath and plan out your schedule and give yourself plenty of time!

Tip #2: Be a morning person!!!

Pick a flight that leaves early in the morning. Yes it’s miserable getting up at the crack of dawn but an early flight means your plane most likely came in the night before and will leave on time. You can also avoid weather problems by choosing earlier flights because bad weather usually rolls in late morning. But luck you, if you choose an early flight, you’ll already be in the air above the storm clouds. One more plus side to early flights is that most of them are usually cheaper.

Tip #3: Always check-in 24 hours before!

By doing this it tells the airline “I’m a coming!” Even if you’re checking luggage this could save you time as at busier airports there’s usually a ton lines. If you don’t have a printer-still check in on-line. You can print it at the airport on the airlines kiosks.

Tip #4: Pack smart in your carry on!

This is a trick I have picked up on from my fear of my luggage getting lost. I always pack at least two full outfits and things that I know I would definitely need if my checked luggage were together lost.  This puts my mind at ease a little because I know that if the airline does lose my bags then I won’t be completely out of things to wear!

Tip #5: Pack your incase of emergency items!

Make sure you have all of the things you need, especially when traveling on a long flight! I never go to the airport with out a good book, headphones, and a snack! But of course, do not forget your plane tickets, passport, sunglasses, and a camera to capture all of your amazing travel memories!
